Terroir 02 Terroir Since 2015, the “Climats de Bourgogne” is registered in the World Heritage of UNESCO. The word “Climat” is from Burgundy and designates a viticulture terroir. It is a certain piece of land, with vines, that is named, has a story and specific geological and climate conditions. The “Climat” is the association of land, grape variety and craftsmanship.
03 Area The Côte de Beaune extends over 12 miles from Ladoix-Serrigny (in the north) to Maranges (in the south). It is located in two departments, the Côte-d’Or and the Saône-et-Loire in Burgundy. It is one of the most renowned wine regions in Burgundy. This area is known for some of the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the world. Our parcels are located in the areas of Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Auxey-Duresses and Santenay. Historically, all wines were named « Vins de Beaune » (Wines from Beaune). With the creation of “Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée” in 1936, each area where vines grew was given a name. This name is then given to the wine based on where the grapes come from. Near Beaune, we mostly find Pinot Noir vines that produce sturdy strong red wines. Our powerful Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes is a good example. In southern areas, the Chardonnay vines, producing white wine, dominates. These wines tend to have bright clean acidity with a hint of honey suckle fruit. Our Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Les Ecussaux is one of them. 1
